The One About Dog Runs and Discipline

My dogs and I went to a dog run. We rarely do; I prefer off going off-leash in Central Park when we wake up early enough.

A big brown dog was picking on Milan. My dog signaled me for help (it’s not the first time she’s done this).

I asked around who owned the big brown dog. An older man claimed ownership.

I told him his dog was being too rough. He half-heartedly tried to stop his dog. Or maybe the old man just wasn’t fast enough. #BenefitOfTheDoubt

I said “Sir, please stop your dog. I’m afraid my other dog (Jorge) will fight back.”

“That’s actually a good thing,” he said.

“No! That’s not a good thing!” I exclaimed.

I often ask my clients “If your daughter pulls the hair of another little girl in class or in a playground, wouldn’t you stop your daughter?”

It’s apparent that many humans lose all sense of discipline when dealing with their dogs.
